Sodium carbonate (washing soda) is the heavy hitter of the low-waste cleaning cabinet. Stronger and more alkaline than baking soda, it’s especially useful for cutting through grease, grime, and stubborn dirt. It can boost laundry detergent, help lift tough stains, soften hard water, clean greasy kitchen surfaces, and tackle grimy pots, pans, and household surfaces. It’s a simple, concentrated ingredient that can replace a surprising number of specialty cleaning products
